We were invited to create a piece of artwork for the main hall to represent the people who used the building.
Starting with creative workshops, community groups, resident in the space, created a range of artworks including wire portraits, charcoal sketches of iconic Hackney buildings and simple words that captured the essence of The Old School Rooms.
Informed by the art created by the building’s users, we recorded, montaged and layered imagery through digital techniques. We used perspex and laser etching to reappropriate the initial designs to create reflective pieces, echoing stained glass windows, where colour, patterns and light bounced around the space literally and metaphorically.
