ARTBASH Pop UPs
Introducing new workshops for adults hosted by artists with inspiring skills to share.
Workshops will be four sessions running for two hours on Friday mornings. 10am – 12pm.
Due to popular demand we are re running the Abstract landscape starting on 23rd Febuaray, followed by 1st, 8th & 22nd March 24. (Please note there is a break on 15th March)
Be inspired by artist Lucy Merriman and her abstract landscapes, setting you on a unique creative journey. No experience needed just a passion to explore mono-printing creatively. You will be encouraged to develop your own style personal to you. Each week will draw upon different monoprint techniques focusing on mark-making, collage and image making to develop a plethora of original works inspired by the landscape.
WEEK 1 – MARK MAKING
Painting with brushes, using brayers, palette knives to create abstract mark marking with an essence of landscape. Playing with ink & water to create ghost prints, being intuitive with marks and colours.
WEEK 2 – TEXTURES & SHAPES
Using newsprint, string, fabric, found materials; ie: leaves to create textures. Exploring shapes, graphic, abstract, torn edges. Creating prints for collage material.
WEEK 3 – COLLAGE & MIXED MEDIA
Creating collage with mark making, printed textures, shapes from previous weeks plus coloured paper. Exploring compositon and colour. Making final pieces.
WEEK 4 – TRANSFER PRINTING
Experimenting with layered imagery. The hand drawn intuitive mark and graphic/photographic elements using black & white photocopies. Transferring the image using the burnishing method.
ABOUT The Artist
Lucy Merriman is an emerging contemporary artist based in East London. Her work
is a response to the surrounding landscape through emotive colour and expressive
brushstrokes, focusing on printmaking processes and painting.
Colour is one of the driving principles along with themes of movement and energy,
changing perceptions and connections with our natural environment. Lucy’s mixed media approach is developed through painted sketches, monoprints and photography. Using a blend of analogue & digital processes she plays with form and composition. Hand screen printed images merge with sweeping gestural marks in vibrant hues.
Lucy graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a BA in Textile Design, establishing her first print design studio in Shoreditch 1992. In 2020, Lucy shifted
focus from design to artistic practice.
Since 2021, Lucy has widely exhibited at group shows and art fairs including; TheAffordable Art Fair Battersea and Hampstead, The Other Art Fair London and
Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair with ELP. She is a selected member of ArtCan
and a keyholder at East London Printmakers.
